Wreck closes highway, knocks out power

A portion of Alabama Highway 52 in Dothan was closed Monday morning after a traffic wreck sent power lines tumbling to the ground during a rainstorm.

A portion of Alabama Highway 52 in Dothan was closed Monday morning after a traffic wreck sent power lines tumbling to the ground during a rainstorm. The wreck occurred when a car struck a power pole at the intersection of the road known as Columbia Highway and Omussee Road. One person was taken to the hospital with what is described as non-life threatening injuries.

Traffic was blocked from to allow crews to make repairs and restore electricity to a small area that lost it due to the crash that occurred in heavy rains. The wreck is believed to have been weather related but that could not immediately be confirmed.
