Contemporary, ballet, musical theater, hip-hop and jazz will be focal points of camp that features guest instructors “So You Think You Can Dance” choreographer Nicki Loud and Rion Towery, an internationally acclaimed hip-hop entertainer.

The week-long Spotlight on Dance, for ages 8 through 12 runs from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day in the Long Hall dance studio. Registration ends July 1.

Creative Drama Camp, July 13 -18, features a half-day segment for Mini-Spotlighters ages 4-5 and a full-day camp for ages 6-13.
Campers will be engaged in creative movement, creative workshops, group and individual coaching in play writing, acting, creative drama, musical theatre, and other activities in the Trojan Center Theater. In addition, Spotlighters will have the chance to participate in a performance of a Disney show.

Among guest instructors is Cameron Johnson, director of Choral Music at Enterprise High School, Carson Butterworth, a middle school are teacher from Georgia, and Ross Daniel, a musical theater and dance performer and choreographer. Also teaching is Mary Catherine Chambliss, a senior theatre education major who has been a teaching artist at the Lexington Children’s Theatre in Kentucky; and Grace Stanton, a TROY theatre education alumna from Birmingham who directs The ASAP Theatre Troupe for young artists in the Gulf Shores area.

Finally, the Summer Spotlight’s Performance Intensive and Technical Theatre Intensive for high school students and entering freshmen is July 20-26.

Instructors for the intensives include:

•Dominique Angel, a Joffrey Ballet-trained professional ballet dancer and educator who will join the University’s dance faculty in August 2014;

•Tommy Newman, 2013 ASCAP Foundation Cole Porter Award Winner and 2014 KCACTF Musical Theatre Award Winner and member of the Theatre and Dance Department faculty;

•Quinton Cockrell, a Birmingham native playwright and performer who has worked with theatre companies in New York City and internationally;

•Tracy Gilland-Shillabeer, a national and international dancer and teacher;

•Jesse Graham, a Crossville, Tenn. native living and working in New York City who has national and international tours of “My Fair Lady” and “The Odyssey Experience” under her belt;

•Alex Piper, a TROY alumnus and Acting Fellow of Shakespeare Theatre Company (Washington, D.C.); and

•John Galas, a professional actor from Granby, Conn., fresh off a production of “The Adventures of Perseus” with the Experiential Theater Company.

Joining them are Towery, Loud, Daniel, and senior dance and theatre major Jordan Gulledge.
