Motorcycle rider dies after police chase

Police apparently lost sight of the bike temporarily but it was spotted again a few minutes later.
A man was killed Friday after losing control of his motorcycle that was being pursued by police officers. The wreck occurred at the intersection of West Main Street and Brannon Stand Road. The man was taken to nearby Flowers Hospital where he was pronounced dead by Houston County Coroner Robert Byrd.

No official statement has been issued by agencies involved but it’s believed the motorcycle was observed in Headland traveling at speeds of about 130 miles per hour. Police apparently lost sight of the bike temporarily but it was spotted again a few minutes later. That led to the pursuit that culminated in the crash that occurred about 7:00 pm.

Byrd said his understanding is the motorcycle may hit a pothole in the road causing the driver to lose control and wreck his bike. Byrd said the identity of the victim can’t be released at this time because the next of kin has not been notified. He said the man was not a resident of the Dothan area.
