It happened in the Chancellor community, about ten miles north of Geneva.
Sources say that a father and son had been arguing when a neighbor stepped in. The neighbor warned the son to leave his father alone or he would shoot. The son refused and was shot in the abdomen.
The son was taken to a local hospital where he died during surgery.
At this time the shooter has not been charged. One official told WDHN that the case could likely end up as a self-defense shooting. Before that, the investigation will be handed over to Geneva County District Attorney Kirke Adams. From there Adams would determine if the case should be presented to a Geneva County grand jury.
WDHN has learned the names of all the parties involved but are holding those at this time. The case is being investigated by the Geneva County Sheriff's office. They are expected to provide additional information on Thursday.
