Sheriff's office probes case of body found in Houston County

Sheriff Andy Hughes said it’s unclear what caused Obie Rice’s death and investigators likely won’t know until forensics tests have been completed in a few days.
The Houston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a man whose body was found Friday morning. The remains of Obie Rice, 43, were discovered in a creek near South Park Avenue extension. He had been reported missing by family members a few days ago.

Sheriff Andy Hughes said it’s unclear what caused Rice’s death and investigators likely won’t know until forensics tests have been completed in a few days. “I don’t want to elaborate on the cause of death at this time,” Hughes said.

The sheriff said two people had been spending time at Rice’s home recently but said they have not been charged in the death of Rice. The sheriff said one of them has been arrested on outstanding warrants not associated with Rice’s death.
