There’s a new option this fall for people interested in social work.
Troy University's Dothan Campus is starting a Master's of Social Work program.
"Social work in general is important because a social worker is an advocate, educator and a broker for the people of the state," said Social Work Chair Dr. Denise Green.
It's been 23 years in the making, but for the Dothan campus, the vision will finally become a reality this year.
"When you go to a social worker, you see them because you need information, you need resources, you need education, you may need help with an issue, and a master's level person actually has expertise in those areas," Green said.
The classes will meet in the evenings for those who work during the day.
And social work staff members say there are lots of job options with this kind of degree.
"You can have jobs here, you can have state jobs, federal jobs...,” said Green.
The program will have six faculty members and offer two concentrations.
One in direct practice with a focus on military families.
The other in organizational management and leadership.
"Troy University has a long tradition of military..." said Green
An open house will be held in April, and the program is now accepting applications for the fall.
