Chief who was replaced by former Dothan officer dies

The body of Mickey Pledger, 59, of was found in a van parked outside a Dollar General.
The former police chief of Elberta, Alabama suffered a heart attack last Friday and died. The body of Mickey Pledger, 59, of Spanish Fort was found in a van parked outside a Dollar General in Gadsden. He had gone there to visit his mother over Mother’s Day weekend according to an article in the Gadsden Times.

Pledger resigned in 2011 and was charged with filing a false police report, firing a gun into an occupied building and tampering with evidence after failing a polygraph test. He received a suspended sentence and probation. Under the plea agreement Pledger was banned from law enforcement. Elberta is in Baldwin County.

An interim chief took over until the council hired Stan Devane in 2012. He is a former Dothan officer who was also employed with the Board of Pardons and Parole.
