Just last week trucks were stopped in Ozark.
That's because they couldn't roll down the highway because of the winter storm. It's now hoped they will soon stop again, but for a far better reason… business.
City officials broke ground on a new Love's Travel Stop, on what was once a drive-in movie theater spot.
It will cost about seven million dollars to build.
"We're going to create about 50 jobs out here that are going to be good-paying jobs,” said Love’s Real Estate Project Manager William Gleason. “Love's offers a 401k program and we offer health insurance for our employees. It's an area where so many can come to work and make a career."
Ozark, like all towns and cities, knows finding new business is tough these days.
So, they’re welcoming Love's with open arms.
"I think it's a wonderful opportunity for Ozark, and we're extremely proud to have Love's Travel Center here. They'll be a great business partner for our community,” said Ozark Mayor Billy Blackwell.
“We feel good about the return on investment about the property. We feel it's going to be really good for the city,” said Eric Basinger, executive director of the Ozark-Dale County Economic Development Corporation. “It’ll be good for the revenue, there’s also the new job creation that’s going to bring us a new payroll in the area."
Love's is a national chain, with almost 150 locations and nine locations in Alabama. The Ozark location will be the 10th location in the state.
"They are a large travel stop that has a lot of diesel and gasoline sales. They're also going to have a tire shop, and their country store has a lot of retail sales inside there,” Basinger said.
The new Love’s Travel Stop and Country Store is expected to be open by late summer. A restaurant at the travel stop may also be in the works.
