She is accused of tampering with ballots that helped incumbent city commissioner Amos Newsome retain his District 2 seat. Newsome has not been charged with wrongdoing.
Newsome’s win came on the strength of absentee ballots that favored him by a 119-5 margin. That brought complaints of possible wrongdoing by Danzey and her supporters. The Houston County Sheriff’s Office conducted an investigation spanning several weeks and involving more than 100 witnesses. The findings were turned over to District Attorney Doug Valeska.
Newsome’s longtime girlfriend, Olivia Reynolds, was also indicted on the charges. Court documents don’t reveal that a third person charged, Janice Hart, has been indicted at this time. However, all actions of the grand jury have not yet been docketed in Houston County Circuit Court.
