Many dog owners in Houston County have been patiently waiting for its grand opening and the time is finally here.
The Dog Friendly Park at Eastgate is officially opening to the public tomorrow morning at nine.
"It's just something to do, you know, instead of walking around the neighborhood you can go to a park,” Kuame McGlom, an employee at Pet Supermarket, said.
The park has been under construction for six months leading up to tomorrow.
But today crews were adding the finishing touches, including water fountains for both dog and owner.
We talked to some dog owners who are most looking forward to the interaction between dogs and people.
“I think that dogs need as much interaction as people do, so it gives you a chance to interact with people that have pets also,” Tami Taylor, a dog owner, said.
Bradley Gibson has a dog and is glad to see more dog friendly places.
“Obviously Petsmart is one of the only places they can go into and that's kind of sad for dog owners because we kind of have to leave them around, you know, at the house or with somebody, we can't take them everywhere, so it's nice to be able to take our pets with us and they can spend time with us,” Gibson said.
But with all fun come some rules and the dog friendly park is no exception.
Your dog does not have to be on a leash while in the park but if the dog gets aggressive you will need to put him back on the leash.
Other park rules include a two dog maximum per visitor and cleaning up after your dog.
The park is also split into two sides, one side for small dogs and one side for large dogs.
But don't let the rules keep you away from this new Houston County attraction.
“Looking forward to having one here in Dothan. I know its kinda been lacking a little, there's only a few here and there and definitely looking forward to having that other one open,” Gibson said.
As for Tami and her dog J.Lo, she said they will be there with bells on tomorrow morning at nine.
