Headland police prepare for a busy Memorial Day Weekend

Traffic enforcement will a priority this holiday weekend.
The Headland police department are watching US 431 closely this Memorial Day weekend.

Traffic is expected to be heavy as people head to and from some of the world's most beautiful beaches. Police will be out watching for traffic violators.

Headland is just one of the agencies throughout the area that will be taking advantage of this year's Click It or Ticket program. This allows for officers to get overtime for traffic enforcement. Some of the top priorities include seat belt checks, dui checkpoints and speeding infractions.

Sgt. Dwight Grooms says that on holiday weekends they sometimes see double the tickets they would on a non-holiday weekend.

Grooms says that for him and other officers safety is the first priority for the person committing the infraction and the other drivers that could potentially be harmed as a result.

The holiday travel period ends on Monday.
