The Dothan Education Foundation awarded $40,000 worth of grants Wednesday at the Dothan City Schools Annual Institute.

"It was an extremely competetive process. You want to be able to afford every grant that is submitted to you," said Tami Culver, President of the Dothan Educaiton Foundation.

Forty-nine teachers applied for grants. After a careful reviewing process, 27 grants submissions were approved.

Culver said, "We definitely know that there is a need in this community for teachers and the classrooms."

The Dothan Education Foundation's Teacher Grant Program has been helping teachers for nearly 20 years.

"These projects are things that otherwise would not have been funded in the Dothan City School System," remarked Culver.

Since the program's inception teachers have been awarded $350,000 in grant money.
