Houston County Commissioner Curtis Harvey has won re-election with almost 60 percent of the votes.

Harvey defeated former Dothan Commissioner Larry Matthews in today's vote with 704 votes to Matthews’ 525 votes.

Harvey is a veteran of the commission, first elected about a decade ago.

Like McClendon, he joined the commission via a special election when he took over for the late Wylie Yelverton.

"It feels great.  We're tired.  It's been a long race, you know, our campaign was door to door,  I think we were very strategic, but first of all, I give God all the glory," said Harvey.

He says he looks forward to investing more time in the community, and he plans to hold more forums and town hall meetings to keep people informed.
