Dothan woman sentenced for lying before grand jury probing police shooting

Christopher Thomas was killed in June, 2012 when the car he was driving rammed into a building following the shooting.
A Dothan woman was sentenced Friday to serve one year in Houston County Community Corrections. Minnie Pearce Vickers was denied probation for committing perjury during testimony before a grand jury. She also pleaded guilty to divulging testimony presented to the panel investigating a Dothan police related shooting.

Following her guilty plea earlier this year Pearce was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the perjury charge. However, Houston County Circuit Judge Larry Anderson opted to allow her to serve the 12-month sentence in the work release program for both charges.

Pearce is one of two women accused of lying before the grand jury hearing evidence in the death of a 22-year old man shot to death by a Dothan police officer. Christopher Thomas was killed in June, 2012 when the car he was driving rammed into a building following the shooting that following a brief pursuit.The grand jury determined that the officer was justified.

Co-defendant Nancy Young was given probation during a hearing held earlier.
