According to the Florida Forest Service, a private contractor was conducting a controlled burn west of Highway 79 and south of the power lines. The fire jumped its containment area and has cross Highway 79 in several areas. The West Bay bridge is about 6 miles north of Panama City Beach.
The Florida Forest Service has three units on scene, along with assistance from the Bay County Fire Department and the Panama City Beach Fire Department. Motorists are urged to avoid the area.
