Covenant Church Road Expansion Creates Controversy

Planning commission denied church a new exit.
It's a problem perhaps every church wants to have--a packed house for Sunday service but the problem is spilling into the parking lot. And just as soon as the church tried to address the problem, they got hit with a roadblock . The almost 100 space parking lot expansion was approved by the city planning commission but the exit--was denied. The main reason is because the exit would open up right into the cul-de-sac of Barbara Court, bringing extra traffic into the quiet neighborhood.

We spoke with neighbors today and got mixed reactions. We also made several attempts to speak with the church's senior pastor but our request for an on camera interview was denied. We do know that many already use the unpaved road as a back exit to avoid the heavy traffic when church gets out. But as of right now the planning commission isn't budging on their decision to make the road permanent.
