A Texas deputy sheriff may have been the key to solving a series of bank robberies including one that occurred in Dothan. The officer, who works for the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office near Abilene, is credited with narrowing the getaway car to two possible models. The deputy was not identified by name.

The Texas officer was contacted in September by an FBI agent based in Florida but had previously worked in Abilene. A release from the Taylor County Sheriff’s Office said the officer had expertise in identifying automobiles. A poor quality surveillance photo from a Davenport, Florida store parking lot was shown to the officer who narrowed the possibilities to only two. Because a partial license plate number was available agents were able to identify the vehicle to a great certainty.

Immanuel and Cara Williams, both 28, were apprehended at their Tampa home earlier this month, just two days after a Trinity Bank in Dothan was robbed. The couple has been dubbed the “Bonnie and Clyde bandits because they went from town to town robbing banks. The couple has been implicated in 15 heists---most occurred in Florida during the past year. Besides Trinity, an Alabama bank was robbed this month in Baldwin County.

Meanwhile, Cara Williams this week waived her right to be indicted by a federal grand jury, apparently in an effort to get to trial quicker. Both she and Emmanuel are being held without bond pending trial.
