Police Chief Terminates High Ranking Officer

Captain Keith Gray was dismissed from force after almost 30 years on job.
A high ranking Dothan police officer was fired Monday after an internal investigation revealed he committed intolerable offenses in violation of department policy. That’s according to Chief Greg Benton who issued a written media release.

“After an extensive internal investigation it was determined that Captain Keith Gray violated Police Department General Orders and Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of Dothan to the extent that his violations were intolerable offenses,” the statement said.

Benton, internal affairs officers, Gray, and Gray’s attorney met Monday morning. All parties refused comment at that time.

Gray was suspended last month after members of a motorcycle gang were arrested following an altercation in downtown Dothan. Gray was not involved in the altercation and is not believed to have been present when it occurred.

However, something in the investigation of the brawl apparently triggered the probe of Gray.

Gray has served 28 years on the force, most recently as supervisor of administrative services.

Benton would not comment at this time.  A message has been left for Pat Jones, the attorney who represents Gray.
