A man has received a split sentence for the robbery of a cash advance business in Dothan during which a police baton was used as the weapon.

Aaron Keith Rukvina, 30, was ordered to serve 3 years in prison and be placed on probation after his release. Houston County Circuit Judge Butch Binford ordered the sentence during a hearing held Wednesday. Binford earlier sentenced Rukvina to 20 years in prison but reconsidered after Rukvina asked for probation.

Rukvina was arrested June 13, 2013 for the armed robbery of Check and Go on Ross Clark Circle near Planet Fitness. Investigators determined the baton was used to threaten employees during the holdup.

Rukvina has been jailed since his arrest and will be given credit for time served. He is represented by Dothan attorney Matt Lamere.
