Senior right-hander Tanner Hicks has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.

Hicks tossed a shutout in Troy's conference opener against South Alabama on Friday allowing six hits – all singles – and striking out five. It is the third complete game of Hicks' career and he has pitched at least seven innings in all five starts this season.

The Millbrook, Ala., native is 2-2 on the season with a 2.13 ERA. In his five starts, he has recorded four quality starts, which is when a pitcher throws six or more innings allowing three or fewer runs. Hicks has struck out 37 batters in 38 innings of work this year.

Hicks finished third in the Sun Belt last season with eight victories and was fifth with 94 strikeouts. He was also named Pitcher of the Week in 2013 after a four-hit complete game against UALR on April 19.
