Coffee County woman Liz Milstead and her toddler grandson were attacked by a donkey on Thursday, May 10 in the Ino community.
Ms. Milstead and the baby were feeding the domesticated donkey when it knocked the baby down.
Milstead threw herself in the way to shield her grandchild.
She fought it off by biting the donkey on the face.
Milstead was life-flighted to UAB and put on a breathing machine, but has since been taken off.
The baby was admitted into Children's Hospital in Birmingham and has been released.
Many are calling Ms. Milstead a hero but she says she does not see herself as a hero, she was just doing what she needed to do to protect her grandson.
