Troy's Brandon Silvers Named Sun Belt Offensive Player of the Week

TROY, Alabama – Troy senior quarterback Brandon Silvers has been named the Sun Belt Conference Offensive Player of the Week following a vote by the league’s media, the conference office announced Monday morning.

Silvers completed 25-of-40 passes for 286 yards and a touchdown in addition to rushing for 28 yards and the game-winning touchdown in Troy’s 27-24 victory at New Mexico State in the Trojans’ Sun Belt opener.

Leading 20-16 late in the third quarter, Silvers converted a huge third-and-10 with an 11-yard completion to Jordan Chunn. Facing third-and-12 later in the drive, Silvers hit Clark Quisenberry for 11 yards to set up what turned out to be the play of the game. On the ensuing fourth-and-1, the Aggies crashed the middle on a fake to Chunn, and Silvers went around right end for 32 yards and his 12th career rushing touchdown.

A native of Orange Beach, Ala., Silvers marched the Trojans down the field on their first two drives of the game for touchdowns, including a 9-yard touchdown strike to Damion Willis.

Silvers currently ranks fifth nationally among active players with 8,164 career passing yards and ninth with 55 career touchdown passes.

Troy returns to The Vet on Saturday for Military Appreciation Day against Akron. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. but fans are encouraged to get to the game early for an F-16 flyover and a field-length American flag.
