TROY, Alabama – Troy softball head coach Beth Mullins announced the signing of five standout high school players to the Troy softball team . The signing class consists of Adia Polk, Haley Postell, Katie Lively, Kaylee Chapman and Leanna Johnson.
“We are really excited about the 2018 signing class this staff has put together,” Mullins said. “I think we have a great mixture of great pitching, defense, speed and power hitting. I really expect these five ladies to step on campus and make an immediate impact in our program.”
Polk, a first baseman and outfielder, signed with Troy out of Snellville, Ga., She just finished her senior season at Shiloh High School.
Polk was named offensive player of the year twice as a sophomore and junior and was region player of the year in 2016. Batted a career-high .481 as a junior and capped her high school career with a .397 at the plate. Recorded 37 doubles, 23 home runs, 107 runs scored and 131 RBIs as a General. She helped lead the Generals to the first round of the playoffs as a freshman, junior and senior.
Postell, a right-handed pitcher, joins the Trojans out of Hueytown, Ala. She is set to begin her senior season at Hueytown High School. She has helped lead the Golden Gophers to two regional appearances, as a freshman and junior and one state appearance, as a sophomore.
Through 356.1 innings pitched, Postell has thrown 398 strikeouts. Last season, as a junior, she recorded and ERA of 2.11 with 23 saves in the circle. She also finished her junior season with a .443 average at the plate. Postell was named 2016 Birmingham All-Metro her sophomore season.
The Trojans picked up pitcher Leanna Johnson out of Brantley, Ala. Johnson enters her senior season at Brantley High School, where she helped the Bulldogs to back-to-back state 1A championships as a freshman and sophomore and state runners-up as a junior.
Through three seasons with the Bulldogs, Johnson has posted a total record of 114-19 in the circle. She has a total ERA of 1.33 with 1175 strikeouts. As a junior, she tallied 472 strikeouts and an ERA of 1.026. Johnson has been named to the all-tournament team all three seasons. She was named 1A Pitcher of the Year as a freshman and sophomore.
Infielder Kaylee Chapman comes to Troy out of Springville, Ala. She is set for her senior year at Springville High School where she led the Tigers to three straight 5A state appearances. Chapman looks to improve on a 124-35-2 overall record.
She was named to the all-county team as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and named to the all-state tournament team as a junior. Chapman posted 85 hits and 23 doubles last season as a junior.
Outfielder Katie Lively joins the Trojans from Helena, Ala., where she enters her senior season at Helena High School. Lively helped lead the Huskies to a regional appearance as a freshman, state finals as a sophomore and state semifinals as a junior.
Last season she batted a .412 with 54 hits, 47 RBIs, five home runs, and 32 runs. She was named all-state second team as a freshman and sophomore. As a junior, she was named all-state first team, all-region first team and all-county second team.
