Geneva County will have to go to the polls again in July to determine two local races.

A run-off in the race for sheriff will feature former co-workers. Chief Deputy Tony Helms and former deputy David Hall received the most votes in the four-person race.

Helms had 2,235 votes to Hall's 2,222 votes. Former deputy Ray Mock was third with 1,147 votes and Robert Clark finished with 85 votes.

The winner of the run-off does not face a democratic challenger in November.

Sheriff Greg Ward announced just before the deadline to quality for the republican primary that he would not seek another term in office. Ward has served Geneva County as the top law enforcement officer for the last 20 years.

The move opened the flood gates for candidates to jump in the race. Only one, Hall, had already announced he would seek the post before Ward's decision was made.
