A Dothan woman was apparently murdered Wednesday night after being kidnapped by her ex-husband whom she divorced only days ago amid concerns for her safety.

Dothan Police have not released the victim’s name at this time. However, the victim's sister identifies her as Rebecca Jackson. Willie Toney, a man to whom she had been married twice, was taken into custody. The couple had two children together. They are ages 14 and 12.

It is believed Toney, 44, forced his former wife from her home on South Alice Street. He then took her to a remote area of Geneva County where she was killed. Jackson’s body was found in a field near Bellwood and Toney was taken into custody a short time later. The cause of death has not been released.

Court records show the couple’s divorce became final on February 26 after Circuit Judge Kevin Moulton issued a default judgment in the case after Toney failed to show up for a hearing. Jackson filed for divorce the first time in 2002 and remarried in 2006.

Jackson, 39, sought and received a protection from abuse order late last year. She claimed Toney had threatened to kill her. In the divorce filing, Jackson claimed the order was violated when Toney tried to break into Jackson’s home.

Court records indicate Toney also sought a protection order against Jackson but later withdrew the request.

Toney is expected to be charged with murder and kidnapping. It's not immediately known if charge will be capital murder and the death penalty sought.
