The hikes also affect Alabama locations in Ozark, Abbeville, Eufaula, and Andalusia. Also on the list are Ft. Gaines and Georgetown, Georgia.
The common denominator in the price overhaul is that each of these cities is being moved from a "market-dominant fee group" to "competitive fee group." In other words, the Postal Service has determined it no longer holds a post-office box monopoly and has significant competition from private companies.
The increases vary by location but average about 20%. They become effective August 27.
