Word on the street is a new Walmart is coming to Headland but city officials say otherwise. Land was approved for rezoning on the corner of U.S. 431 and County Road 99 but the city says that's all that's been approved.
We reached out to Walmart's corporate office today. They say there have been no plans made for a new store in the area but we do know a retailer with a gas station plans to apply to for a business permit for the rezoned location.
Some say the additional gas station might make gas prices more competitive in Headland.
"The convenience for the people and surrounding area is great but it's a competition based economy we live in. That's the way businesses are...but I think it'll be a good thing. Good thing for the people," said Headland shopper, Charles Gately.
He's not the only one looking forward to the added convenience of another store.
"I thought it was great because we come to Dothan several times a week and I don't like to come all the way across town so it'd be really nice to stop here in Headland," said Headland shopper, Betty Kramer.
Many speculate it will likely be a Walmart but people will anxiously wait until the city and the store make it official to the public.
