A reported kidnapping has now turned into a murder investigation.

The kidnapping was reported just before 6 p.m. Wednesday night to the Dothan Police Department. As the investigation moved forward it lead authorities into Geneva County.

Geneva County Sheriff Greg Ward says the Dothan police are interviewing a man in custody and that the case was domestic in nature. A body was recovered just south of Bellwood off of Hwy. 85 near Geneva County 40.

Ward said that he would hold off on making any additional comments on the case until Dothan has a chance to provide additional details.

Dothan police are handling the investigation after a discussion between all agencies involved in the case according to Ward. It is still unclear who would prosecute the case with it beginning in Houston County and ending in Geneva County.

In December of 2010, Mia Brown was kidnapped and murdered. The crime began in Holmes County, Florida but ended in Geneva County. The case could have been tried in either state but ultimately ended up being tried in Florida.

It likely that both Geneva-Dale District Attorney Kirke Adams and Houston-Henry District Attorney Doug Valeska will sit down and discuss the case and determine the best course of action.

Additional information is expected later today from law enforcement. WDHN will have more here at and on WDHN News at 5, 6 and 10.
