"All year the word 'hero' define 'hero' in your personal life... You needed to have known the man. and oh, i knew him," said Mrs. Jan Poland as she choked back tears.

Jan and Chuck Poland were married for 43 years and every day began the same.

"It never never has failed since the day we said I do. He'd take me in his arms and he'd hug me and he'd say 'honey I love you have a good day see you this afternoon'," said Poland.

Those were the last words she and her husband shared before the unimaginable happened.

She says the last year has been extremely difficult for her and her family but they've chosen to focus on the memories shared throughout the years and not just what happened on his last day.

"He was a man that could do what he set his mind to he absolutely could do that and I know it's been said but he was a man who loved God, his country and his family. That's it. The 43 years, 3 months and 26 days is what we had but i've got pictures and memories of hugs and kisses," said Poland.

As they cling to memories and old pictures they still look forward to the future.

"When I go to sleep at night I say 'thank you Lord for letting me see the end of your day.' The next morning I wake up and I say 'I'm one day closer to seeing dad again'," said Lydia Hancock, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Poland.

"Love. True love will never die. It never dies. Mine will never," said Poland.
