Court records show James Chad Wiles, 20, of Taylor was charged with Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling and Reckless Endangerment. .
Lt. Bill Rafferty of the Sheriff’s Office said Wiles is believed to have gone to a home where the boyfriend of a family member resides. The two men got into some type of argument and Wiles asked the other man if he was afraid of guns. When the victim said “no” Wiles fired a shot from a derringer. The other man was not struck by the bullet.
“The shot then traveled into a neighboring home and did some damage though nobody was injured there,” Rafferty said. He noted the resident was not immediately aware of what had happened.
Raffery said the man who Wiles told investigators he was initially afraid to report the incident because Wiles had told him to “forget everything that happened.”
Wiles appeared Friday morning before District Judge Benjamin Lewis and advised of his rights. He is held on bonds totaling $12,500.
