Guns in cars bill fails as legislative session winds down

A bill that would have allowed Alabamians to carry a loaded gun in their car or truck without having a concealed carry permit has died. The House Public Safety and Homeland Security Committee failed to approve the bill following a public hearing held Wednesday according to an report.

The bill, opposed by most sheriffs in the state, was sponsored by Rep. Scott Beason (R), Gardendale. "I'm trying to make sure that honest, law-abiding citizens have the ability to defend themselves," Beason told the website.
