Now that the legislative session is over, Governor Robert Bentley ventures out into the communities as part of his Road to Economic Recovery tour.

"We go to different counties across the state.  One of the areas that I always try to go to is to a school, because I like to see what’s going on as far as education across the state," said Bentley.

And to do so, he made his first stop at Elba High School, visiting classrooms and speaking to students.  But he's also here to work with community leaders on economic issues.

"Many of the people we’ll be meeting with today actually run a small business.  Most of the jobs that are created in the state are from small businesses.  So, we’ll be talking to them, we’ll see what their needs are, see what their questions are and see we can help them," Bentley said.

He says by meeting with city officials and community leaders, the state can better meet the needs of the people.

"As representatives, or as governor, whoever it may be, we serve the people, and we serve businesses, so we need to do everything we can to try to help them," said Bentley.

After visiting the high school, the governor took a tour of Dorsey Trailers in Elba. He discussed their efforts to expand and the importance of training skilled workers to fill future job positions.

"If I'm reelected, and if these guys are re-elected, one of the things we’ll be working on is some new incentive packages, new incentive moneis to help existing businesses, like Dorsey," Bentley said.

He also addressed the recent storms that hit the state and his request for help from FEMA.

"What we have to do is accumulate all the damages as much as we possibly can, add those up, and we have to reach a certain threshold, especially with individual assistance, which we're asking for, as well as debri removal,” said Bentley.

Bentley says it will be two to three more days before they learn more about getting federal assistance.

The next stop in his tour was Enterprise, where the city’s Chamber of Commerce hosted a business round table discussion.
