Engineers put together a plan to repair the streets in Enterprise back in the late 1990s.

The streets were rated from "A" to "E" based on their condition, "A" meaning good condition, and "E" representing streets in the poorest condition.

"We had a lot of bad streets. Since we have started the resurfacing project, we have gotten all the ‘E’ streets, we have gotten all the ‘D’ streets, we are in the ‘C’ streets," said Mayor Kenneth Boswell.

Since then, the city has completed two resurfacing projects, and a third resurfacing project is now underway.

"What we wanted to do was continue maintaining and going by the comprehensive plan that we have,” Boswell said.  “Everyone likes to see their street resurfaced, and we hope, with the petroleum prices being what they are today, we'll be able to [complete] up to 105 streets.”

Just last year, the city did a bond issue, generating 12.5 million dollars.

Nearly three million dollars of that amount will be spent on the resurfacing project.

The project is in the design phase, with plans to start construction by the fall, and Boswell says the city hopes to complete the project by September of next year.
