Enterprise City Schools will have a new board member starting this summer.

The Enterprise City Council voted this week to appoint Dorothy Whitehurst Richardson to the school board.

She is replacing board member James Brown, who was appointed to serve out the remainder of Jimmy Jones' term.

Mrs. Richardson herself attended enterprise schools.  She taught school in Elba for 35 years and retired in 1998, and she has served as President of the Coppinville High School Alumni Association for 25 years.

She is also the widow of Master Sergeant Roy Richardson and a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church.

"We were very happy that our city council appointed Dorothy Richardson as our new school board member.  She’s a very strong community leader, she’s a great activist in our community, and we feel like she’ll be a great asset to our board," said Enterprise City Schools Superintendent Dr. Camille Wright.

Mrs. Richardson is also a descendant of the Whitehurst family, one of the first families to settle in Enterprise.
