A fire caused heavy damage Tuesday at a Dothan apartment complex, displacing four families. The fire was reported about 4:15 at Westgate Village located on Westgate Parkway near Heritage Baptist Church.

“This was a significant fire and we feel fortunate that nobody was hurt,” said Dothan Fire Department Battalion Commander Chris Etheredge. He said the fire caused major damage to four apartments in the development. Etheredge said it was premature to speculate on the cause. “Our fire marshals will conduct a thorough investigation,” he said.

“I’m happy to be alive,” said Cordale Snell whose apartment was gutted in the fire leaving Snell and her children without a home. We’re going to take it one day at a time knowing things can be replaced,” she said.

Etheredge said the American Red Cross is helping the victims find shelter and other needs.
