The government agreed earlier this year to settle the matter with AFC. The company that operates several clinics including one in Dothan agreed to pay $1.2 million under the agreement.
AFC hoped the lawsuit brought by Salters claiming the company “upcoded” services to for the purpose of overcharging health providers would also be dropped. It wasn’t.
Salters filed under a law that permits private parties to file suit on behalf of the government for false claims and to obtain a portion of the government’s recovery. Salters’ share has not yet been determined.
A trial is scheduled next January.
