Jack Jones, also known as Daddy Jack, is about to turn 107 years old. The Geneva County native actually celebrated his birthday a few days ago though it doesn’t happen until February 25.

Daddy Jack was born in 1907 when Theodore Roosevelt was President. He was seven years old when World War I began and in his 30’s when WW II broke out. Jack was 62 when man first stepped on the moon 1969.

Jack was 22 years old when the stock market crash of 1929 occurred and he remembers the Great Depression just like it was yesterday. “That was a serious time because nobody had money,” he said. “There were lots of little farms back then and if you didn’t have something to eat somebody would give you something.”

Jack’s real name isn’t even Jack---it’s Orlyster Marvin Jones. Jack was a nickname given by his wife, Elizabeth, when the couple was dating. They were married for 68 years before Elizabeth died.

“She was taking 16 pills a day and that would kill anyone,” Jack said. In contrast, he takes only a baby aspirin everyday and is perhaps the healthiest man on earth considering his age.

Daddy Jack said what’s changed the most during his lifetime is the work ethic of people. “I never thought I would see the day when lots of people didn’t have to work but I’m seeing now,” he said.

Despite his age, Jack still drives his pickup truck and is rumored to have a girlfriend.
