A man sought on sex charges involving an underage girl was shot and captured Monday night in the Skipperville area where he lived. Billy Wayne Lomaneck, 50, was taken into custody after exchanging gunfire with Dale County deputies who were tracking him.

“Shortly after night fall the aviation unit spotted Lomaneck running in a field while being chased by a K-9,” said Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson in a written press release. “Lomaneck took a position in the wood line as the aviation unit directed deputies to his location. As deputies closed in on Lomaneck gunfire was exchanged,” he said. The K-9 was killed after being struck by a bullet.

Lomaneck was taking to a hospital for treatment and will face several charges including the sex allegations that had sparked a manhunt for him last week.

Olson thanked multiple agencies who assisted in the investigation.
