A campaign aide to State Senator Harri Ann Smith was arrested Thursday for Driving under the Influence of Alcohol.

Anthony G.Yoakam, 50, of Dothan was involved in a two vehicle crash about 1:00 a.m. on Ross Clark Circle at or near the intersection with Hodgesville Road according to a Dothan Police spokesperson.

Sgt. Maurice “Mac” Eggleston said Yoakam failed a field sobriety test administered following the crash. The wreck is not believed to have left anyone seriously injured. His blood alcohol content is not known at this time.

Previous news articles identified Yoakam as Director of Constituent Services for Smith who has served in the Senate since 1999. However, Yoakam said Friday he recently resigned that position to work as a contract employee for Smith’s re-election campaign.

Smith is out of town attending the graduation of a family member and not available for comment at this time according Gayla White, the chairman of her petition campaign.
