A Sunday night fire forced Panama City Beach Parkway, also known as Back Beach Road, to close.

The Bay County Fire Department and Panama City Beach Fire Rescue responded to the fire at the single wide mobile home. The home sits more than 100 feet from the busy roadway.

Fire crews spent the better part of an hour putting it out. Battalion Chief Darrel Wise says the location of the fire made it necessary to close the road to both east and west bound traffic.

"The closest hydrant was directly across Highway 98 toward Back Beach or Panama City Beach Parkway, which means four lanes of traffic," Wise said. "The Bay County Sheriff's Office was great in keeping people off of our hose."

The fire came during the one of the busiest tourist weeks of the year. However, traffic on Panama City Parkway was lighter than usual because of the lateness of the hour.

One person who lived in the home was taken to the hospital for treatment. There’s no immediate work on their condition.
