A Jackson County couple has been arrested after allegedly attacking their son because the boy took a video game from their mobile home on Cedar Lane near Marianna. Norman Cooper, 49, and Patricia Cooper, 47, were taken into custody early Saturday morning according to a media release from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.

Sgt. Quinton Hollis said the couple went out drinking Friday night and left instructions that their 13-year was not allowed inside their home. Hollis said the boy was living next door with an adult sister because of family problems though all his personal belongings remained in his parents home.

“The 13 year-old entered the residence and retrieved his PlayStation 3 to keep himself occupied,” Hollis said in a statement. “When the parents returned home and realized he had been in the house they went next door and an altercation ensued.”
Norman Cooper is accused of punching the child twice in the stomach and slapping him two times in the face. Cooper allegedly tried to attack the boy with a claw hammer but was unsuccessful. Patricia Cooper is accused of choking her son and throwing him onto the floor.

Hollis said, despite a lengthy ordeal, the boy was not seriously hurt.

Specifically, Norman Cooper is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Domestic Battery, and Child Abuse. Patricia Cooper is charged with Domestic Battery and Child Abuse.
