The Jackson County sheriff's office is warning people of a new scam they have been contacted about.

Numerous citizens have bee receiving phone calls from people claiming to be able reduce credit card interest rates. Sometimes they claim to lower to 1%.

To make matters worse, the calls appear to be coming from local phone numbers. This is a common practice these days for telemarketers and debt collectors.

The people are actually trying to gain your personal information through the calls.

Sheriff Lou Roberts has a simple message for residents - don't give out personal information over the phone. Simply hang up and don't answer the call again.
