New peanut buying point has opened in the Wiregrass

GENEVA, Ala.--A new peanut buying point has opened.

The two-$2,000,000  facility is located on Enterprise Highway just north of Geneva.

It was built by a group of farmers.

The new station will sell peanuts to Birdsong Peanuts out of Georgia.

Local farmers wanted more options for selling their peanuts locally.

Geneva county ranks third in the state in peanut production.

" I'm very excited for the community for the farmers, for the investors. I'm excited to be a part of this and we just had our first load a couple of days ago," said Manager Roger Ward.

The new buying point can process about 20,000 tons of peanuts at a time ad this includes the latest graders, samplers and cleaners.
