The Southeast Alabama Medical Center Foundation will hold The Sandi McCool Champions of Hope breast cancer awareness health event Saturday, October 18th on the campus of the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine (84 East, Dothan, AL).

Champions of Hope has raised more than $582,000 since its inaugural year in 2008 and proceeds have helped expand cancer services and programs offered by the Medical Center, including the Southeast Regional Health Screening Program, a community outreach initiative. The screening program utilizes a 45-foot mobile medical vehicle equipped with a digital mammography suite, lab and an education area to provide access to life-saving screening tests throughout a multi-county region.

The Sandi McCool Champions of Hope 2014 promises to be a fun-filled day that will appeal to the entire family. The event will include a 5K/10K race, a Spirit Walk, 25- & 45-mile cycling event and the Kids’ Fit Challenge. The days’ activities will also include live radio broadcasts, food, drinks, and an opportunity to visit Champions Plaza where area merchants and exclusive Champions of Hope merchandise will be available.

The Spirit Walk and Cycling Event fee is $25. Registration for the 5K/10K race is $35. Registration fees include the 2014 event t-shirt.

Sandy Brooks, 2014 event spokesperson and the 2014 planning committee invite you to become a Champion of Hope! Team participation is encouraged and there will be special recognition for the largest team, the team raising the most money and the team with the best t-shirt design. For sponsorship, vendor and/or participant information, please contact the SAMC Foundation office at 334-673-4150 or visit Registeration begins August 1st.

Champions of Hope is named for our very first champion in 2008. Sandi McCool served as the first year spokesperson and was instrumental in starting the annual event.
