The Pentagon announced today that Gen. Mangum is being promoted to the rank of lieutenant general and assigned as Deputy Commanding General/Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Gen. Mangum currently serves as the Commanding General at the U.S. Army Aviation Center of Excellence and Fort Rucker.
"Gen. Mangum provided outstanding leadership at Fort Rucker during a difficult time of severe budget constraints, including those brought on by sequestration,” Rep. Roby said. “As a testament to his leadership, the post received the 2013 Commander in Chief's Award for Installation Excellence and the 2013 Chief of Staff Army Communities of Excellence Gold Award.
“He also offered me invaluable insight into the needs of our deployed forces, military readiness and the future of Army aviation. The Fort Rucker community will certainly miss Gen. Mangum, but I congratulate him on this well-deserved promotion and wish him and his family all the best.”
Gen. Mangum’s promotion will be effective pending confirmation by the U.S. Senate.
