Houston County Sheriff Andy Hughes wanted to give retired law enforcement officers a chance to renew old acquaintances. So, three years ago he began hosting a luncheon for them.

“We just wanted to get these guys together and make them like they are still part of the law enforcement community,” Hughes said. “Once you’re a law enforcement officer you’re always a law enforcement officer.”

A crowd of 200 or so gathered Wednesday at the Houston County Farm Center, enjoyed a good meal, and reminisced about the good old days. “Some of them haven’t seen each other in 30 years since they retired,” said Hughes.

Several current law enforcement officers attended the event. Among them were Coffee County Sheriff Dave Sutton, Dale County Sheriff Wally Olson, Henry County Sheriff Will Maddox, and Jackson County Sheriff Lou Roberts. Others included Dothan Police Chief Greg Benton and Major Steve Parrish.
