DOTHAN, AL – April 24, 2014 – On Saturday, April 26, local Comcast employees and their families, friends and community partners will “make change happen” as they volunteer to rehab The Ordinary People Society (TOPS) facility as part of Comcast’s 13th Comcast Cares Day. Local residents are encouraged to join this special volunteer event in support of the Dothan community.

On Comcast Cares Day, volunteers will work to give the 45,000 square foot TOPS facility a much needed makeover, inside and out. Projects will include painting, setting up a computer lab, organizing storage rooms, landscaping and creating a garden. TOPS is a faith-based nonprofit organization that offers assistance to individuals and their families that are facing the effects of drug addiction, incarceration, homelessness, unemployment, hunger and illness.

Members of the general public can sign up by visiting, searching for projects in the Dothan area and selecting the A Helping Hand Goes a Long Way at The Ordinary People Society - Dothan 2014“project. Onsite registration will be available, but participants are encouraged to sign up beforehand to ensure they get a t-shirt.

“We’re proud to partner with The Ordinary People Society on this Comcast Cares Day project that will make such a positive impact in the Dothan community,” said Stefanie Bowden, Comcast Senior Specialist for government affairs & community investment in North Florida. “The hard work of local volunteers who will be donating their time to help make such a big difference in the lives of others is inspiring, and I am thankful to all of our participants who are helping to make Comcast Cares Day a success.”

Comcast Cares Day, which takes place each April during National Volunteer Month, is Comcast and NBCUniversal’s signature day of service and the nation’s largest single-day corporate volunteer effort. This year the Company expects more than 80,000 Comcast and NBCUniversal volunteers to participate in over 700 projects across the country and around the globe. To date, more than half a million volunteers have contributed over 3 million volunteer hours since Comcast Cares Day started in 2001.

The Comcast Foundation will also provide grants to local community partner organizations across the country on behalf of everyone who volunteers on Comcast Cares Day. The grants will help Comcast’s community partners continue their mission of serving the community throughout the year. To date, the Comcast Foundation has awarded more than $14 million in grants to partner organizations to match the efforts of our volunteers on Comcast Cares Day.
