Inmate's attorney responds to Coffee County jailhouse stabbing

COFFEE COUNTY, Ala.-- An altercation at the Coffee County Jail between murder suspect Malcom Hunter and capital murder suspect, David Cunningham, resulted in Cunningham being stabbed.

Cunningham's injuries were not life-threatening.

Hunter's attorney released a statement about the incident.

"My client, Malcom Hunter, made numerous requests to be removed from the same cell as Cunningham because of Cunningham's mental state. After being denied, Malcom asked me to make the request on his behalf, so I did. This request was months ago. This incident could have and should have been avoided."

-Josh Pipkin, Attorney for Malcom Hunter

So far neither have been charged in the incident and the two remain in the Coffee County Jail.
