Amed Colon will soon represent Rucker Boulevard Elementary School for the junior national leaders conference in Washington D.C...
"Well it feels great because I've had good things to happen to me before but this is really good to me so its nice," said colon when describing his reaction to being selected for the conference.
The conference will allow Amed and students from across the nation to take part in a unique academic and career oriented development experience. Fifth grade teacher at Rucker Boulevard Becky Callahan says she wasn't surprise by the recognition because she says Amed is a leader and role model in the school.
"The majority of the time he making great decisions," said Callahan. "And for those little bitty times that maybe he gets off track a little he learns from that and he accepts that, owns it but again that's really rare but he just a great example all the way around on the choices that he makes on a daily basis."
Aside from learning this summer in our nations capital, Amed hopes he also gets the chance to meet one of his favorite NBA players.
"Maybe see John Wall or maybe go to one of the games there," said Colon.
