This is Emily Dean. Each day at Highlands Elementary School she helps students approve and grow in their reading skills but Emily is about to embark on a new journey for the first time in her life.
"A 399 mile relay run that is put on by two teams and we cycle through eight hour periods and we are running fifty miles per eight hours," Emily said.
Emily will start the relay in Memphis and finish in Mobile. The event is put on to help St. Jude Research Hospital in which Emily is thankful she can do something for the patients who cannot .
"One of the hashtags that we use is I run because they can't and every mile counts so every mile that we run raises money for them."
It people like Emily who will allow St. Jude doors to remain open and help save the lives of many young children. She is excited about helping this cause but also nervous about the long run ahead.
"I been training just to run three miles at a times because that the typical amount that we switch. Each runner will run with a partner for three miles and then you switch out with two more runners, I'm kind of anxient to see how running through the night and through the day will go."
She thankful for the the people who have supported her but remains focus on the main goal.
"People have been saying that I'm amazing but i don't think that I'm doing anything great I'm just working with other great people to help St. Jude."
